Empower your life through affirmations

by Christine Peart

“Too many of us are hung upon on what we don’t have, can’t have or we won’t ever have. We spend too much energy being down, when we could use that same energy—if not less of it—doing, or at least trying to do, some of the things we really want to do.”

                              –Terry McMillan.

Author Terry McMillan who wrote the best-selling acclaimed novel, “Waiting to Exhale,” strike a cord in many women lives with these words. Many of us, including me, get wrapped with things that don’t empower our lives in positive ways.

Personally, I was like that for many years. I was hung up on not having enough money because I was frustrated, depressed, and extremely unhappy. “Why?” I had wasted so much energy on all the wrong things.

Yet, there was something in the back of my head, telling me I didn’t have to live my life this way.

Against all Odds

So, with much trepidation, and very little fanfare, using inner-strength, determination, and my spiritual beliefs, I slowly mustered up the courage to make some positive changes in my life.

Cheryl Richardson, Author of “Stand up for your life,” wrote in her book that: “our internalized, critical voices give birth to an inner critic that constantly reminds us of our faults and imperfections.”

Has women we chastise ourselves severely when things don’t turn out right. We berate, and act out self-defeating behaviours, and thoughts that slow our lives down, and seriously undermine our ability to empower our lives.

Powerful Messages of Inspiration

Barbara Hall, Mayor of Toronto was quoted as saying that: “The path to our destination is not always a straight one. We go down the wrong road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn’t matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark.”

With these words in mind I will now ask that you embark on a Journey of empowerment with me. Through the pain, the adversity, and the tears I manage to heal myself, and empower my life through a very simple method called, “Self-Affirmation.”

How does it work?

I began by thinking about all the powerful messages I could pass on to my daughter, that would enable her to become a wonderful and productive human being. These inspirational messages are intended to empower, facilitate, and strengthen your life along with each affirmation.

So, with that in mind please consider these “Empowering Messages.”

Don’t tell yourself you can’t

Begin by telling yourself that you are a strong, powerful and capable human being. You will not be intimidated by what others have done to achieve greatness in there lives, but today you strive above all, to harness all the talent, energy and divine greatness that God has granted you since birth.

Affirmation: I have the power within to maximize my God given talents, now and tomorrow.

Honor Yourself

If you don’t love who you are, no one else will. Today begin by nurturing your mind, body and spirit. Give yourself a chance to let—you in. That means, open yourself to the same love you bestow abundantly on others, and allow this to flow into your life.

Affirmation: I declare that I__________ will let self-love become a daily ritual in my life.

Listen to your Intuition

Often times we get so caught up on doing so many things and thinking so many negative thoughts that we fail to listen to the messages that are around us everyday. Although intuition might seem so minute, it is one the most powerful tool for self-empowerment, and development. Learn to trust it.

Affirmation: My intuition is my greatest strength; today I use it, because it is mine, and I trust it.

Have Faith

Despite what you may be going through right now, stop and listen. Listen to your heart, breath, and believe that everything will work out okay. Trust that you have many wonderful and spiritual friends around you, and things will improve with time.

Affirmation: Faith abides in me, and around me, today I let it flow into my life.

Stand up for yourself

It always amazes how we as humans we find it so easy to stand up for others but not for ourselves. You need to stand up for you, by finding courage, strength, determination, will, and the reverence to be who you want to be.

Affirmation: In my eyes I can see my potential, my inner strength is the fuel for my life.

Be open to new things

Try to explore or delve into something new and unique as often as possible. Empower your life with new experiences. Don’t limit your self growth by reading the same books, or eating the same food. Try something new, because you never know when something interesting will pop up to change your life.

Affirmation: Today I embrace new things in my life and I am willing to explore the possibilities.

Have no Fear

Fear is a very strong and powerful force in many people’s lives. It creeps up unexpectedly, and clings to us like glue to paper. Don’t allow fear to stay too long in your life. I won’t tell you it will go away for ever if you do this, this, this. However, by keeping it subdued and under control you will find your life improve in dramatic ways.

Affirmation: My life will not be held back by fear; today I closed the door to it.

Think Positively

Don’t dwell on your mistakes. Today the sky might be gray but tomorrow the sun will shine in your life again. Try to remember this at your darkest hour that things will always get better even though you don’t believe it now.

Affirmation: I believe in myself and the challenges I face today are temporary because tomorrow I find solutions.

Let go of your past

The past for some of us can be extremely painful, but despite the memories we bear we must move on. Let your past go, no matter if you think you can never let it go—do it. Trust me when I say that you will feel like huge weights have lifted off your back. Life will only get better.

Affirmation: Like a moth coming out of its cocoon, I emerge into a new day

Initiate Change

Start doing today, don’t wait for tomorrow to come. If there is something that makes your blood boil, make your heart sing do it. Don’t say you can’t, “What do you have to lose?” start now, and don’t look back.

Affirmation: Today I allow fate to guide me in the right direction.

Focus on your Goal

Look toward the horizons and focus on your goal. Don’t allow other people’s negativity to get to you. Follow your intuition but most importantly, follow your heart and nothing can get in your way.

Affirmation: As of today, I will do what I believe is authentically me
